NetNearU INTRODUCES TRACKOS SOFTWARE FOR
OPERATING, MONITORING AND MANAGING
REMOTE INTERNET TERMINAL NETWORKS
COLLEGE STATION, Texas, February 16, 2000 -- NetNearU, a pioneer and leader in providing public Internet access, announced today the commercial availability of TRACKOS software for remote monitoring, management and maintenance of Internet-based terminal networks.
"Previously, TRACKOS software had been available for use exclusively on NetNearU Internet access terminals, for which it was developed," said Larry M. James, chairman and chief executive officer of NetNearU. "The capabilities of TRACKOS software have been field-proven in more than 200 existing terminal installations. Now, owners of virtually any type of Internet-based terminal network can have the real-time, accurate data they need to effectively manage their business in a dynamic environment, while minimizing network downtime and maximizing revenue and profits."
TRACKOS software allows real-time monitoring of any number of terminals located anywhere in the world, using any PC with Internet access. The software is compatible with any hardware that supports the Windows NT operating system and also can be ported to other operating systems, if desired. This software provides a secure operating environment for the terminal and its applications. TRACKOS is presently being marketed across multiple vertical markets and targeted for use on information terminals used in malls, airports, retail outlets, and other locations and interactive point-of-sale and e-commerce terminals.
The primary types of information provided by the software include:
-
Usage-related information, such as revenue and cash box data, usage pattern data, and credit card and prepaid card data;
-
Operability information, indicating current status of hardware, peripherals, and connectivity; and
-
Maintenance information, to indicate the need for servicing and to help in troubleshooting or performing repair operations. Features include automatic e-mail notifications of service needs and interactive tracking of service part orders and returns.
TRACKOS collects information on a real-time basis from all terminals on the network, which then can be used to produce a variety of user-specified management reports. In addition, TRACKOS enables remote software administration, software upgrades, and terminal reconfiguration.
The software also provides for interactive ad management (ADTRACKOS):
-
Near real-time remote advertising inventory management for individual or groups of terminals;
-
Tracking of click-throughs and impressions; and
-
Interactive website hit reporting with viewing time statistics.
"The self-diagnostic and maintenance capabilities of the software are particularly valuable to terminal network owners," Mr. James said. "Many problems can be identified and remedied without a service call. When on-site repairs are required, the software provides guidance that speeds the process. Supervisors also can access individual terminals to make sure procedures were performed properly.
NetNearU, which began operations in 1997, is a leading distributor of public Internet access terminals that make Internet access available outside the home or office to anyone who needs it, anytime, anywhere. NetNearU installs and operates company-owned terminals in locations provided by property owners, sells terminals to companies that install and operate them independently, provides monitoring and billing services to all terminal purchasers, and sells on-screen and on-enclosure advertising. NetNearU also develops and markets standard and custom software for remote monitoring, management and maintenance of terminal networks. The company is headquartered in College Station, Texas.
