iPass Announces International Wi-Fi Roaming Agreements

European, Asian and North American network operators sign roaming agreements with iPass to integrate hotspots at key global locations for the mobile enterprise workforce.

REDWOOD SHORES, Calif. — December 3, 2003 — iPass Inc. (Nasdaq: IPAS) today announced it has launched roaming agreements with Swisscom Eurospot, ADP Télécom of France, and NetNearU. Once network integration is complete, the networks covered by these agreements will provide iPass customers with high-speed Wi-Fi Internet access at significant business-oriented hotspot locations across the globe, including the Charles de Gaulle (CDG) and Orly (ORY) airports in Paris; Paddington Station in London; and hotels, restaurants and other venues throughout Europe, Asia and North America.

"The growing availability of public Wi-Fi hotspots is a double-edged sword," said Yankee Group wireless/mobile technologies analyst, Sarah Kim. "On the one hand, a larger network footprint will enable enterprise users to be more efficient on the road. On the other hand, enterprises must navigate services from disparate wireless ISPs, multiple authentication requirements, and inconsistent billing relationships. By incorporating hundreds of hotspots throughout Europe, Asia and North America into its Global Broadband Roaming Network, iPass is facilitating the ease of use of public Wi-Fi access among mobile business users that conduct business globally."

The ADP Télécom network of hotspots includes the Charles de Gaulle and Orly airports in Paris; the Palais des Congrès de Paris, one of the largest convention centers in Paris; hotels in the Alliance Hospitality hotel network, which operates the Holiday Inn brand; and the Concorde Lafayette Hotel, with 1,000 rooms. This is the first roaming agreement of this kind for ADP Télécom.

"iPass is the leading player in providing connectivity solutions to the enterprise," said Jean-Hyacinthe d'Ussel, vice president of the Wi-Fi program for ADP Télécom. "For this reason, ADP Télécom selected iPass to be our first roaming partner. This agreement will enable ADP Télécom to welcome a larger number of users and to reach an international clientele for our Wi-Fi hotspots."

With over 1,500 hotspots, Swisscom Eurospot is the leading Pan-European provider of broadband Internet for business-oriented hotspots at locations including, Hilton, Holiday Inn, Mövenpick, and Steigenberger hotels; airports in Munich, Germany and Brussels, Belgium; and train stations, such as Paddington Station in London. Currently, Swisscom Eurospot is offering its broadband Internet access service in Germany, the United Kingdom, Ireland, France, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Spain, and Italy.

iPass also has an agreement with China Telecom which supplies Wi-Fi to venues such as McDonalds restaurants in Shanghai and Guangdong inside Mainland China.

In the United States, iPass entered into an agreement with NetNearU, a company in College Station, Texas that services approximately 500 hotspot venues around the world, such as the Miami (MIA), Newark (EWR), and Baltimore (BWI) airports. Other featured locations include Hyatt Regency and Embassy Vacation Resort hotels, marinas, cafés, and convention centers. NetNearU's TRACKOS™ Wi-Fi management system enables carriers and large operators to deploy hotspots in a variety of locations.

"iPass sees offering a secure broadband connection at locations where mobile employees often find themselves—airports, hotels and convention centers—as the biggest benefit of Wi-Fi for the enterprise," said Anurag Lal, vice president of business development at iPass. "iPass has focused on building our industry-leading broadband footprint at these types of business-oriented venues to allow mobile workers to remain productive away from their offices. These network providers share the same vision as they build their own networks around the world at important business-oriented venues."

In the Fall of 2000, iPass began offering the first broadband roaming service for the enterprise. Today, the iPass Global Broadband Roaming (GBR) network spans 24 countries with over 2,800 Wi-Fi hotspots in 16 countries as well as over 1,200 Ethernet-enabled venues around the world. These 2,800 hotspots now active in the iPass network are a composite of Wi-Fi service offerings from over 20 providers.
